Prepare and Serve Espresso Coffee

Work Health and Safety WHS
Safety is important in every workplace. Not just for you, but for your customers as well. Here are a few WHS rules that you should always follow;
-
Always ensure that the cafe is kept clean and free from clutter.
-
If there are any spills, immediately section of the area and display a yellow 'Wet Floor' sign. Then quickly clean up the spill and dry it off.
-
Try not to slouch or crouch over the machine. Good habits are formed from the start, so try to keep your back straight and shoulders square.
-
Use non slip mats in wet areas to avoid accidents from spills. Supportive or anti-fatigue mats are also available.
-
Make sure you are always in full cafe uniform, including the correct shoes. Not only is this for safety, but it also shows a professional attitude to customers.
-
Parts of the espresso machine can get quite hot, so always take care when in and around the equipment. Always use a clean cloth when touching the steam wand. Steam can burn you alot quicker than boiling water so be careful.
-
Never place your fingers in the grinder.
-
Always turn equipment off and unplug machinery at the wall socket before cleaning.
-
When handling cleaning chemicals always take care and use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required. An MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) and product instructions should be easily accessible for all staff.
-
Always follow the WHS guidleines at every workplace. They are there to protect YOU!
